Pacto network gathers to kick off the inaugural classes of the Strong Democracy agenda
On July 13, the Pacto pela Democracia network gathered in São Paulo to celebrate the Pacto's 6th anniversary and kick off the inaugural classes of Democracia Forte (Strong Democracy), the agenda focused on protecting democracy this year.
During the event, a space for reflection on the global defense of democracy was promoted, featuring journalists Fernando Barros e Silva, editor of Revista Piauí and host of the podcast Foro de Teresina, and Ana Luiza Albuquerque, political reporter for Folha de São Paulo and host of the podcast Autoritários.
The event brought together over 90 representatives from Pacto network organizations, and the journalists shared insights on how civil society can advance a progressive agenda in the face of the far-right's rise and the discrediting of democratic institutions at the national level.
Democracia Forte Agenda
The Democracia Forte Agenda is an initiative by Pacto pela Democracia to protect the Rule of Law in Brazil. Structured around eight fundamental pillars, this agenda seeks to promote reflections and suggest measures to safeguard democracy in Brazil, making it less vulnerable to authoritarian incursions. The Democracia Forte Agenda acts as "a democratic vaccine against autocratic advances," aiming to protect Brazil's Rule of Law and create defenses against potential coup attempts, both now and in the future.
